Middlesbrough should renew 19 Y/O's contract amid interests from top European clubs

Middlesbrough FC’s form this season is not as expected by their manager, Michael Carrick, who is currently in 10th place with 54 points in the Championship table.

The 42-year-old manager has been in charge at Riverside Stadium since 2022. Last season (2022–23), Middlesbrough FC finished in 4th place, but this time they need to win more matches if they want to reach the same position.

Middlesbrough’s 19-year-old center-back Rav van den Berg is linked with a move from the Riverside Stadium, as other English clubs—Crystal Palace, Everton, and West Ham—are interested in signing him.

As revealed, Middlesbrough is now hoping to renew his contract as more English clubs have been linked with the Dutch professional footballer.

Even Premier League clubs are now monitoring his contract renewal situation, as they will make a bid in the coming transfer window if contract renewal doesn’t take place.

Rav van den Berg – Middlesbrough’s future star

The 19-year-old, who was bought by Middlesbrough from PEC Zwolle in the summer, has impressed for the Teesside team at every level, making 34 appearances across all competitions, including 29 in the Championship.

After playing second-tier Dutch football the previous season, the young player has had a tremendous ascent to the top, and at 19, he is expected to have a bright future in the sport.

Naturally, attention is generated by continuous success in the second division during adolescence, and Van den Berg has generated plenty of it in recent months as a member of Michael Carrick’s team.

Should Middlesbrough renew Rav van den Berg’s contract?

According to a Northern Echo source, Van den Berg was a summer target for AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, and Juventus — pure European powerhouses with tremendous sway over young players. However, Middlesbrough emerged victorious in the race to recruit him.

Along with the obvious appeal of playing first-team football, Rav, the brother of Liverpool defender Sepp, decided to pursue a career in the North East because he liked “the look and feel” of the Riverside.

Additionally, the Northern Echo reports that negotiations for a new and better contract have already begun, and after showing so much promise for a teenager throughout the season, his four-year contract may be extended.

Middlesbrough will be eager to offer the young player a new and better contract despite the fact that they only signed him in the summer in order to ward off interest from elsewhere.

Of course, the European heavyweights have been interested in him in the past, but the Premier League has been keeping a close eye on his form.
